AFFORDABLE AND SAFE PLACES TO LIVE

Whether one aspires to or already lives in an apartment, condo, duplex, or single-family home, everyone wants safe, affordable housing. Far too many of our fellow Minnesotans are experiencing homelessness; and far too many others have shelter but cannot afford the type of home they desire.

United Way, Catholic Charities, ISAIAH, Homeless Helping Homeless, and other groups are working on this complex issue. State and federal dollars are helping, but there is much more to be done.

As your Minnesota state representative, I will prioritize:

  • Government financial help for builders to construct homes for low-income individuals and families.

  • Exploring options for making existing homes more affordable, perhaps allocating more state lending programs.

  • Updating housing regulations that may be based on old data.

  • Programs to educate first-time home buyers on topics ranging from lawn/appliance/building maintenance to neighborhood etiquette.

  • Programs to educate neighborhoods on the value of embracing diversity and prevent Not in My Back Yard attitudes.

  • Bringing area communities together in efforts to draw on state and federal resources to ensure the availability of safe, affordable housing.

What other solutions would you support?
